Today, I am thrilled to spotlight “Rainbow Chameleon Friendship,” an enchanting story penned by a young author from Iran, 9-year-old Ilya Nowrozi. His narrative offers a vivid exploration of color, identity, and friendship through the adventures of a curious chameleon. This colorful journey not only explores the nature of change and belonging but also showcases the vibrant potential and creative talent of young minds.
Children’s stories play a crucial role in their cognitive and emotional development, allowing kids to process the world in ways fundamentally different from adults. They often blend elements of their daily experiences with fantastical aspects, creating narratives that, while seemingly simple, carry deep meanings and offer profound reflections on life’s complexities.
Ilya Nowrozi’s story beautifully combines themes of friendship, self-discovery, and acceptance into a lively narrative that appeals to readers of all ages.

“Rainbow Chameleon Friendship“ by Ilya Nowrozi
“One hot summer day, the little chameleon of our story was born. His mother and father were overjoyed by his arrival. How long did it take for the little chameleon to stand on his feet? He was very curious and adventurous. The first thing that caught his eye was the different colors of his parents compared to his own. Oba was surprised to see his mother sitting on a rose. Her skin was red, while his father, perched on a green leaf of an apple tree, was green. His own color had turned brown, like the trunk of the tree on which he was sitting.
Confused, the little chameleon thought these couldn’t be his parents or perhaps he wasn’t their child. He moved aside, distraught, until his mother approached him. Suddenly, she changed from red to the same brown of his own color. Surprised, he didn’t know what to think. “My dear, what happened, why are you upset?” his mother asked. The little chameleon shared his worries, and his mother laughed gently, explaining, “Little boy, we are chameleons. Our skin changes to match whatever it touches, and that’s a special trait of ours. Don’t worry.”
Relieved, the little chameleon jumped from one object to another, matching every color he encountered. He turned green on the leaf, red on a strawberry, and yellow on a narcissus flower. Happily, he asked his father, “When will I be able to be all colors?” His father replied, “One day when a rainbow appears, you will.”
Awaiting the Rainbow
The little chameleon often went to the river, waiting for a rainbow. He didn’t know what a rainbow looked like until one sunny day when it started to rain lightly while the sun was still shining. Suddenly, a beautiful rainbow appeared. The chameleon greeted it warmly.
“Hello, little chameleon, what are you doing?” the rainbow asked.
“Can you stay with me until the night?” asked the chameleon.
“I can’t stay long, but now I’m here” the rainbow replied. However, as the rainbow gradually faded, the little chameleon had to say a heartfelt goodbye.
Though saddened by the rainbow’s departure, the chameleon noticed all the animals gathered around, admiring the beautiful colors on his body. Their joy at seeing his rainbow-tinted skin made the brief friendship with the rainbow a truly memorable experience.”
Ilya Nowrozi dedicates this captivating tale to his beloved grandmother, Iran Khanum, whose spirit continues to inspire through his stories. May her soul rest in peace.
