What are friendship bracelets?

Handmade friendship bracelets are normally presented to friends as gifts. They are often made from vibrant threads or yarn that can be braided, twisted, or woven together in elaborate beautiful designs.

How do you make a friendship bracelet?

It is quite easy to craft a friendship bracelet. Let’s try and create one together!

I chose for us a simple model, with only three strands of floss. If you want however to further experiment, you can simply add more colors to your friendship bracelet. You might get as a result a stunning and complex design.

1. Cut three pieces of variously colored embroidery floss.

2. At one end, knot the three pieces of floss together, then tape the knot to a flat surface.

3. Make sure that each color is on the left, middle, and right strands by separating them.

4. Cross over the middle strand with the left strand. Then, cross the right strand over the new middle strand.

5. Repeat step four until the bracelet reaches the desired length.

6. Now you’re ready to tie the bracelet around your friend’s wrist (cut off any surplus floss, if necessary).

Friendship bracelets have a long history in Central and South America, where they are used to represent the bond between two people.

The strength of the friendship is symbolized by wearing the friendship bracelets until they naturally fall off.
